The White Bread Family Side Show
We were inspired to create a Side Show when our good friend Carl Block of Flatland Pottery took us to an opening of antique side show banners at the Webb Folk Art Gallery in Waxahachie, TX. The images were compelling and sometimes dark. They instilled a sense of both childhood familiarity and wonder.
My fascination with “Carnie Life” began in the late 1970’s fueled by the insights of my old friend Jack Bridges, creator of Big Tex, a notorious Carnie Man himself. Jack would sit at my bar smoking Macanudos and regale me with tales of life on the road with the traveling show. He captured my imagination. I was, after all, one of those kids who dreamed of running off and joining the Circus.
I have heard Billy Ray reflect often that we, artists, are Carnies ourselves in both lifestyle and imagination.
So step right up! We hope you enjoy the show!
